Earlier this year, the Ohio Legislature by a three-fifths supermajority proposed a ballot issue to amend the Ohio Constitution to require a photo ID for voting. That issue is on the Nov. 3 ballot as State Issue 3. Photo voter ID’s are already required in Ohio law, but proponents argue that adding the requirement to the state constitution will make it harder for a future General Assembly to change or remove it from law, and they note that having a photo voter ID requirement to vote (with exceptions for religious reasons) is widely accepted by Americans.
