Dodgers Face Elimination After Brewers Take 3-0 NLCS Lead

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the verge of elimination after losing 6-2 to the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday night, ultimately giving Milwaukee a 3-0 lead in the National League Championship Series.

Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio hit a home run on the first pitch of the game. The Dodgers gained some momentum in the bottom of the sixth when Will Smith hit a two-run double, briefly giving L.A. a 2-1 lead.

Milwaukee quickly countered in the top of the seventh. Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell hit back-to-back home runs off of Dodgers starter Blake Snell to gain back the lead. The Brewers scored three runs in the seventh before adding another run in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure the 6-2 win.

Teams that have led 3-0 in all best-of-seven postseason series have won 41 of 42 series, according to MLB. Of those, 32 have ended in sweeps. The only team to ever overcome a 3-0 postseason series deficit was the 2004 Boston Red Sox, who came back against the New York Yankees in the ALCS.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was a part of that 2004 Red Sox team. Ahead of Game 4, Roberts remained hopeful the Dodgers could overcome the deficit. “It’s certainly possible,” Roberts told MLB. “I’ve lived it.”

The Dodgers will try to keep their season alive Thursday with Game 4 beginning at 5 p.m. at Dodger Stadium. Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to start for Los Angeles against Milwaukee’s Shane Drohan. The game will air nationally on FS1.
